IIDA Advocacy

Design Impacts Everyone—And It Deserves a Voice

Interior design shapes the way we live, work, and connect. But to protect and elevate the profession, we must advocate for its value. Through legislation, community awareness, and a commitment to equity, IIDA PA/NJ/DE leads advocacy efforts that drive change and empower design professionals at every level.

Our Chapter’s advocacy work begins with awareness—educating the public, the design community, and policymakers about the value of interior design. From campaigns to conversations, we shine a light on the power of design and the people behind it. Join us in building a more informed and inspired future for our profession.

“We have to stand together as humans dedicated to the betterment of our society. Let us continue to be a force for good in this world and take responsibility individually and collectively for envisioning and enacting change, progress, and JUSTICE. Design is forever an act of optimism, and we can little afford in our activism to not be optimistic about our collective future.”
Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA, IIDA Executive Vice President & CEO

Our chapter believes that meaningful advocacy must include a commitment to equity, inclusion, and representation. Through programming and partnerships, we’re working to amplify underrepresented voices and expand access across the design profession.

IIDA members have long championed legislation that supports the health, safety, and welfare of the public through design. From sustainable housing to healing-centered healthcare spaces, interior designers play a critical role in shaping our environments—and they deserve legal recognition. Together, we advocate for policies that protect our work, elevate our profession, and expand our impact.

The Interior Design Legislative Coalition of Pennsylvania (IDLCPA) is a not-for-profit organization committed to advancing the interior design profession through licensing and regulation.

Our Chapter’s Advocacy Work at a Glance

At IIDA PA/NJ/DE, advocacy isn’t just a value—it’s action. Our chapter is proud to have contributed to the passage of Senate Bill 1319, granting legal recognition to interior designers in Pennsylvania for the first time. Through partnerships with IDLCPA, ASID, CIDQ, and AIA, and the leadership of our Advocacy VPs, we helped turn years of effort into lasting impact.

We’re also advancing equity through our Design, Equity, and Inclusion Series, a multi-part program empowering designers to create meaningful change within their workplaces and communities.
